I had returned to my home town of Soldotna Alaska from living in South Lake Tahoe to start my grown up life. I had started going to school at kpcc and had been working with dogs again. We were well into the summer of 2002 and I had decided to go back to working at Inlet Salmon to make some fast cash. On my first day back I was on a tour of the cannery with one of my oldest friends, Cindy Davis. While making the loop around the cannery and heading back over to the cold side I spotted a tall man in a freezer suit. I don't know what it was but I had this overwhelming feeling that I had to meet this man and that he was going to be my next boyfriend. At the time I thought Kelly was older then me. We met and hit it off automatically. We did the typical hanging out and partying after work here and there. We worked opposite shifts for a while. Soon Shifts combined to one and we worked with eachother until the end of the season. We had been hanging out every day. I was very fond of him and didn't know how he felt about me. One day we just hooked up after a long night together. It was wonderful! Everything was perfect! I was in love.
After our cannery season was over we still hung out every day, we were inseperatable. Kelly had driven up to Alasks with his friend, Nathan Busby, in his '65 mustang. The car had taken a beating on the Al-Can on its way up and Kelly was in need of a new car. We had made numerous friends that summer and had formed a crew of peeps that were from the 48 and needed to get home. Kelly, being from Napa, and myself ,having lived in Tahoe for a few year, and had many friends there that I loved dearly, I desided to take a drive with everyone down to the STATES. Kelly was planning to buy a suburban from a co-worker, that fell through. We were all counting on pitching in on gas to get home/out of Alaska. We later found our vanagon at a local car dealers. Kelly traded his '65 mustang and a mini-fridge for our vanagon, that we still own today!
We had a great trip down. We dropped off folks along the way and there were four of us ending up in Napa, Kelly, Nathan Busby, Rappin Joe Forte, and myself. Kelly and I had gotten quite serious and I wanted to stay in California a while. I would go up to Tahoe for weekends to see my friends and Kelly would stay in Napa to take care of business. One weekend night while I was in Tahoe, I was talking to Kelly on the phone. We were ending our phone call and Kelly said,"I love you.", I didn't say It back. I just said good night bye. It wasn't that I didn't love him back, I was just totally thrown off guard.
From then on we have been together. I told Kelly that my compromise on staying in CA, would be moving to Tahoe. By New Years Kelly, myself, and our buddy Joe Forte all moved to South Lake Tahoe. Kelly and I lived in two different houses while there with different friends for about two years. It was while we were in Tahoe that Kelly got his CDL working at Meeks Lumber. Kelly and I knew that one day we wanted to buy a house and knew at the time we could not buy in California.
We left Tahoe and spent a year in Napa close to Kelly's dad before we made our big move up north. We spent one year in Napa where I worked at Trader Joes and made some great friends. Even though the city is no place for me, I thouroghly enjoyed my year in Napa!
We moved to Alaska the end of 2005, just in time for me to be the officiant for my brother Chris and his wife Cactus' wedding. Barely a year and a half later we had our first child, Avery James Martin. We lived in a tiny cabin in the middle of no where, everything was perfect. Kelly began working at AIMM Technologies. About two years later Kelly and I bought our first house together. We have been enjoying life in the woods of Alaska. We raise Chickens;layers and meat; turkeys, and pigs. We recently expanded our family, to max capasity ,when we had our daughter, Alora Ann Martin. By the time we are married Kelly and I will have been together 11years. I wont say they have all been easy but I will say they all have been ours. We have grown together and even when we irritate eachother to death we love eachother more and more each day. We are happy to say we are finally getting married!!! And are so happy you all are in our lives to share it with. |
